SHORTNESS OF BREATH / DYSPNEA

Dyspnea is the medical term used for shortness of breath. Many diseases and illnesses can cause this including diseases of the lung, heart and muscles.



Some common causes include:
-Asthma
-COPD
-Congestive heart failure
-Interstitial lung disease
-Deconditioning (being out of shape)

To determine the cause of dyspnea, your physician will take a medical history and perform a physical examination.

Additional testing may include:
-Blood tests
-Chest X-ray
-CT scan
-Pulmonary function test
